We depart to Nicosia, the largest city of the island and the only divided capital of Europe. There we will visit the old quarters with its charming restaurants and shops and we will have time for shopping and coffee. We will then visit Saint John’s Cathedral and the Archaeological Museum of Cyprus, where ancient Cypriot artifacts dated back up to the 9th milleneum, belonging to one of the first civilizations in the world are exhibited. Following our bus tour of the green line, the Archbishops’ Palace and the Famagusta gate, we will drive to The Mall, where you will give time for shopping and lunch at own expenses. Day trip to Nicosia Island / City Tour (B,D)
Our first stop is Lefkara, a village famous around the world for its handmade lace and silver ware. We will be given a tour of the village and time to have coffee and buy souvenirs. Tradition has it that Leonardo Da Vinci has visited this village and was impressed by the local embroideries and bought some pieces for his own use. One of these, a table cloth is depicted in his paintings. After Lefkara we will visit the nunnery of St. Minas, where the nuns specialize in hand painting byzantine icons, which visitors can order and buy. Our last stop will be a donkey farm where we will be able to ride the donkeys, have a meze buffet dinner, watch traditional Cypriot and Greek dances and finally we will have an opportunity to learn how to dance ‘Zorba the Greek’ .Over night at Lordos Beach Hotel, Larnaka
Visit Lefkara, Ayios Minas and Donkey Farm (B,D)
We will head east toward the famous for fun and partying Ayia Napa, also famous for its beautiful beaches of golden sand and crystal clear sea. We will visit the centre of the village and will stroll down the harbor for some coffee or tea at one of the area’s cafes. We will then proceed to Nissi Beach where we can swim in the blue Mediterranean. After this we will proceed to Derynia, a suburb of Famagusta, the Ghost town. As access to the town is not allowed from that direction, because it has been occupied by Turkish troops since 1974, we will view the uninhabited town from a viewing point, where we will be given a short and interesting account of 1974 events. After this we will proceed to the area of the Red Villages, the most fertile agricultural land on the island, where the locals grow mainly potatoes and vegetables. There we will stop at a herbal garden and maze, where we can learn about herbs, have fun in the maze and then have lunch at own expenses. Overnight at Lordos Beach Hotel, Larnaka
